Ladies and Gentlemen of the Cabin, Prepare for Takeoff - Feb 9, 2019

I can’t believe I’m about to leave the mtc! I leave at 3 am on Monday morning to ship off and arrive in Guam Wednesday. It’ll be a long 22 hours of travel, but I couldn’t be more excited.

This week has had a few ups and downs. Me and Elder Lloyd got to teach our last trc, or just practice lessons, on Thursday’s and it was really amazing. We taught this girl named Aubrey. She’s pretty obviously not a member and we were the first missionaries to ever teach her. She had so many questions so for our fist lesson on Tuesday we really just took it slow and got her to understand she has a loving Heavenly Father and how Christ suffered for her. Then in the lesson on Thursday we helped her with any questions and discussed repentance and the remission of sins with her. She really loved the thought of Christ always just there, waiting for her to reach out so he could lift her up. One thing that really stood out to me though is when I explained our purpose to her. We had talked about the importance of baptism and how it is a really important step towards christ that allows for her to have access to many more blessings. I then asked her why would I want her to get baptized. She responded by saying because then we would have more members in our church. When I heard that I kinda just responded from my gut, or the spirit, and said I really don’t care how many members there are in the church, I only care how many people come closer to Christ and realize how much he loves them and wants to help them. She really liked that and we moved on. Later that night though I realized how true that is.

So many members of the church aren’t really close to Christ, and don’t understand or follow the covenants and ordinances that they’ve made with God. I’d rather see someone come closer to Christ and first understand him so that when they do get baptized they can understand what they are doing. This gospel is really tru, and people need it in their lives, but they need to understand the love of the savior through the Holy Ghost first.

Okay on a sad note Elder Lloyd had a pretty bad injury this week. He was playing volleyball and landed wrong, tearing two tendons in his ankle. Yesterday we were at doctors appointments for about 9 hours just to figure everything out. He has to wear a boot for 3 weeks, then a brace for 6 weeks. By some miracle though the mtc is letting him still leave for Guam on Monday with the rest of the district. He’s in pain, but super grateful that he’s still able to go

Well sorry I don’t really have any pictures from this week, we don’t have phones so it makes it a bit harder. I love all of you and hope you all stay safe and warm. Next email will be from Guam!

Loves

Elder Peterson
