Oh how foolish I was - Jan 26, 2019
This is my first email!! The mtc has been exactly what I needed. I came in thinking I was going to just be counting down the days until I left for Guam, which I still am, without ever paying attention. The classes here are great though as really have helped me in every part of my testimony that I was worried about. I know more than I ever have that my savior truly loves me and sacrificed so much just so I could be here. He really does want me to be here, and I’m truly honored to have the opportunity. A few days ago my branch president was talking to us and he said that he’s felt that the savior has walked the halls of the mtc, and I really do believe that now. There’s a spirit that is truly amazing, and it never leaves you. It’s the best. We’ve also been doing a lot of role playing, which i like about half of the time.
The food here is perhaps the one part causing my district and zone problems. Last night I went into the restroom and heard an explosion from one of the stalls and a strained voice defiantly whisper, “feel my wrath toilet”. So we are trying to figure out what to eat so we at least make it to the field.
My district is 6 other elders and 4 sisters. 5 of the elders and 2 of the sisters are going to Australia. The other 2 sisters are going to Canada, and me and one of my companions are going to Micronesia Guam! One of the elders didn’t show up so I have 2 companions, Elder Lloyd and Elder Marshall. Elder Lloyd is the one going to my mission. Both are really great guys and it’s been amazing to get to know them over the past few days. It’s really weird, I’ve only been with my district like 2 days but we all feel super close already. They’re all pretty extraordinary.
Overall it’s been just a great experience. I do struggle sometimes with exhaustion and yesterday was a little difficult just because the classes didn’t have a ton of the spirit, but I think it will get better. The older elders say that if we just make it past Sunday we’ll start to feel the flow.
Oh I also found out some more stuff about my mission from some rm that served there. Apparently every missionary is assigned another language to learn, it just depends how much you will use it if you are in a city or out on a tiny island. Also it’s very rude to puff out your cheeks at people, kinda like flipping someone off. Also handshakes need to be super light, almost limp. If you shake someone’s hand firmly it means you want to fight people there are also a little crazy. It’s very rude to show anger in their culture....unless you’re just mad wasted. If you’re drunk it’s totally fine to just become maniacs and try to kill people. This retold me that they’ll get drunk and chase people with machetes or try to shoot people with these barbed darts the size of lawn darts they fling from sling shots. I mean seriously? That’s the appropriate time to let someone have deadly weapons? Haha it’ll be okay though, it sounds amazing from all the other things I’ve heard. You just go and learn the language by ear, so we’ll see how that goes. Love all you guys.

Sorry I still have to figure out how to send pictures. I’ll try to send some by the end of the day.
